A message from Cindy Pribil, R.N.
Director of Green Country Free Clinic

Nearly 20 years since our founding in 1990, we proudly boast that we can serve ten times as many patients as in our first year. The clinic has been a tremendous success, providing both an Acute Clinic for temporary illnesses and a Chronic Clinic for diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, lung disease and heart conditions.

We also serve two nearby communities with outreach programs providing over 1500 medications per month. This assistance, in part, is possible through a highly developed "Patient Assistance Program," accessed through pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, we have helped three groups start their own free clinics, patterned from ours.

The majority of our growth occurred after August 1993 when we moved into our present facility, a gift from Jane Phillips Hospital. We now utilize approximately 17 volunteers per clinic day and evening, and have five part-time paid employees. The board of directors has grown to a membership of 14.

As we approach our 20th anniversary, we look forward to additional growth and expansion. We are very thankful for the many volunteers, contributors, businesses, and generous benefactors who have made possible the much-needed services Green Country Free Clinic provides.

History

Green Country Free Clinic has provided high quality, free medical care in the Bartlesville area since August 28, 1990. A group of local medical professionals and volunteers founded the clinic as a way to provide health care and medications to people in our community who cannot afford them and are ineligible for other programs.

Initially, the clinic was open only on Tuesday nights in rented space that consisted of one room housing our file cabinet, medications and lab equipment. We also had the use of four examination rooms. We kept the clinic's phone, computer and copier at the home of Cindy Pribil, R.N., the Clinic Director, because we couldn't access our rented space except on Tuesday nights.

One of our volunteers remembers early days at the clinic this way: "The only way to be seen at the clinic was to sign in on a sheet put outside. Clinic began at 6 p.m.   Patients often arrived by 3 p.m. and waited outside in line, whatever the weather. I was the original telephone volunteer, and at first had very little to do. I used up many Post-it tablets writing notes to Cindy about questions I had been asked."
